Pink Floyd gets a limited-edition We Are Rewind cassette player – complete with an exclusive Dark Side of the Moon tape
Pink Floyd fans with a soft spot for cassettes might want to clear some shelf space.
Retro tech specialists We Are Rewind has unveiled a limited-edition Pink Floyd version of its WE-001 cassette player, bundled with an exclusive remastered cassette release of The Dark Side of the Moon that’s only available as part of the box set.
The collaboration continues We Are Rewind’s run of artist-themed cassette releases. This time, the spotlight falls on one of the best-selling cassette albums of all time, with The Dark Side of the Moon receiving a fresh remaster for high-quality cassette playback.
The player itself builds on the company’s flagship WE-001, pairing classic Walkman-inspired styling with modern conveniences. Features include Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless listening, a rechargeable battery with up to 12 hours of playback, a built-in headphone amplifier tuned for cassette listening, and line-in recording for making your own mixtapes (or own voice recordings with a compatible mic). A 3.5mm headphone output and aluminium construction round out the package.
We Are Rewind also says the player offers an upgraded frequency response of 30Hz-14.5kHz (±3dB) for improved cassette playback, while an optional belt clip is available separately for anyone looking to complete the retro look.
The launch comes amid a continued resurgence for the format. According to We Are Rewind, new cassette sales in the US are up 17.5% year on year, while UK sales have risen by 53% after ten years of consistent growth.
“I still have enormous affection for the cassette,” says Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason. “It really was a major breakthrough – not only with the Sony Walkman but with some of the more up-market recorders. I still have my Nakamichi on the shelf and look forward to testing it with the new The Dark Side of the Moon cassette.”
