Suno forms “global alliance” with BMG giving musicians “real choice” over AI use

Music publisher BMG and AI platform Suno have partnered for a “global alliance” that establishes a strategic framework covering BMG’s recorded music and publishing catalogue.
The deal is part of a forthcoming launch from Suno for its first AI music model developed in partnership with the music industry. The two companies will develop “entirely new music experiences” that “reimagine how artists and fans can connect” through their alliance.

According to a press release shared with MusicTech, BMG artists and songwriters who choose to participate have their rights protected and are compensated for their music, while also settling prior use of BMG recordings and publishing works.
In a blog post from Mikey Shulman, Suno co-founder and CEO, he reiterates that the partnership reflects Suno’s established AI principles, which it published earlier this August. He says it “believes innovation and responsibility need to go hand in hand.”
Shulman also states in the press release, “We believe the future of music will be more participatory, creating entirely new ways for artists and fans to connect. Building that future responsibly means working directly with the people who make music and the companies that represent them.
“Together with BMG, we can develop new experiences that give artists and songwriters real choice, generate new revenue, and make music a bigger part of people’s lives.”
Celine Joshua, EVP, Global Marketing & Streaming, BMG, also adds: “The future of AI in music will be defined by whether artists and songwriters remain at the centre of the opportunity and share in the value it creates. Choice is the guiding principle.
“This agreement establishes strong protections, clear economics, and new creative possibilities for artists and their fans. As we enter the era of creation, we look forward to shaping that future together with our creators and Suno.”
This isn’t the first partnership announced by Suno, as it also inked a deal with Warner Music Group in 2025. However, there is still ongoing resistance among the industry against platforms like Suno. A German court recently ruled that Suno had infringed copyright by training its music generation model on protected songs without permission, marking one of the most significant legal victories yet for creators in the fight over generative AI.
The ruling, handed down by the Munich Regional Court, found that Suno unlawfully processed, stored and reproduced musical works represented by German licensing agency GEMA as part of training its AI system.
